I had extremely high expectations for this series of short stories and I was not disappointed! For anyone who enjoys dark, bone-chilling stories that leave you feeling skittish, this is for you. My favorite story in the collection was “Rain” by Muuka Gwaba. As I read this story, I could begin to feel the main character’s panic as she wrote to a friend in a series of emails. It took a turn that I did not expect and the ending was abrupt, but good.

Overall, I feel that this truly is an award worthy anthology. It is full of such talented authors! Even though the genres of the stories were similar, I could feel the differences in writing between each author. It was evident that every single author put tremendous amounts of thought into their stories. I also feel that it captures and honors African culture. The only downside to this anthology is that each story ends very abruptly, and sometimes on a cliffhanger, so you’re left wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I would recommend to anyone who has a fascination with spooky stories!
