This sample contains the entirety of a short story, one of twelve within this compilation. The first story is prettily written, sinister and mysterious. The poetic slant to the writing isn’t for everyone. I think a more simple and straightforward story might have made for a more inviting opener.
This collection is described briefly in the introduction as being varied and particular- these twelve were chosen from a selection of 500+ entries. I’m curious about the other eleven stories. Reading short stories and international folk tales from around the world has been a long-standing hobby of mine, so I was immediately interested in this set.
While I enjoyed the first story, it definitely sets a mature atmosphere and had a horror/thriller element that I hope is revisited throughout the collection but not a constant theme.
