The cover is striking and it would make me pick up the book. But the synopsis only reveals a tired plot and the excerpt didn't do anything to change that. I thought it might be interesting set in Egypt with hints of Egyptian mythology. And I do love a book that has a map. But the writing was just okay. Despite the action-filled first scene, the story didn't draw me in. It felt cliched and full of tired tropes. Rather disappointing. While I can see this appealing to some audiences, this is a pass for me.
