I think for new readers of this author, what will hook them is the themes around Egypt. I loved Egyptology as a child so I find that him writing about it is very refreshing. However, while the writing was good, I did find that I wished I had read the previous series first to know the character. Something that other new readers may agree with but also means I need to go out and read them all!
