Wilbur Smith is a prolific writer of what's usually called adventure stories. The settings are those considered "exotic" by much of the Western world, and the characters are predominantly men who must kill their enemy/enemies. For readers who like lots of blood and gore and battles for territory between male forces or wars to steal some special amulet (also between opposing male forces) - this book is for you! Set in ancient Egypt, THE NEW KINGDOM features Huiand Kyky going up against a legion of evil dudes (The Shrikes) who string up dead bodies with eyes poked out along roadways as a warning. Mr. Smith's novels have a common plot element: to the victor goes the spoils, and the spoils include the local women. I noticed that THE NEW KINGDOM has the obligatory element of helpless feminine characters: reference to girls begging for brave guys to "take them" on page 3 and sobbing from girl captives on page 8. Again, this book might be for you. I do respect Mr. Smith's ability to write so many books.
