This was an excellent read. The characters were fascinating, so well-developed I could clearly imagine them. The book was not what I thought it would be; it was so much more. Rather than being a simple case of one sister needing help and the other sister channeling her spirit and rushing to her aid, the book was about families falling apart, heartbreak, grief, rape, betrayal, and the bonds of friendship.

Above all these things, is the reminder that the strengths and love we've forged and think we've lost hold true in spite of our efforts to isolate ourselves. This is a beautifully written tale of trying to rise above hardships and trying to make a better life. It also emphasizes the idea that membership in the "Nerd Herd" is a source of pride.
