First thing I noticed was how different this book seemed (in a good way) than any other thriller I've read. The reason being how it started by pulling me in not with some crazy twist or exciting event, no, it was the excellent writing (in first person nonetheless) by the author describing who the main characters of this book were (their inner thoughts, the things they enjoyed, hated, didn't understand, and most interesting how they acted towards others while often describing simultaneously how they felt inside about their actions). I'll admit, that's not something I'd ever think would pull me in and keep me wanting more, but Tate is officially the first author who has grabbed my attention and held on tight by simply telling me about who these two incredibly complex, very different, and more than anything fascinatingly interesting sisters, Autumn and Ivy, are. I'm incredibly drawn to Autumn and I have no doubt this book will thrill, twist, and bring me to tears and that will be another first!
The cover is beautiful (my favorite color) but also in that the fraying rope seems like a perfect visual description of what this book is truly about: holding on to what little you have left when it seems everything around you is falling apart.
One of the last parts of the preview was Ivy thinking about how she wishes she and Autumn were closer, how they used to be even after their mother passed, but I believe the quote was "it was like one day she was there and the next day she was gone" (sorry if not exact). I can relate in so many ways personally already but that part hit home. And then it ended. If for no other reason, to solve the why of that is why I would LOVE to keep reading. Plus, no matter what I will be reading this book. Too good, too unique to not.
