This is the kind of YA fantasy I’m probably going to be trying to avoid going forward. There’s nothing wrong with it, per say, I just feel that some of these authors try so hard to emulate their own favorite stories that they don’t ever become their own thing. I don’t want to read someone’s version of a Holly Black book, I want to read something new, you know? And this just doesn’t live up to that for me.
