I finished this book last night and needed some time to just sit before I wrote a review otherwise it would turn into a rant. The only reason I finished this book was from pure force of wanting to know the ending. At the beginning of the story, I was sucked in. But this quickly changed. The more the story went on, the more I hated the writing style and almost everything about the book. I tried to remind myself that this book was written in the perspective of a 12 year old girl, so it makes sense that the writing style was juvenile. However, I felt that Emily's perspective was like an 8 year old, it was too juvenile. And don't get me started, Emily was ANNOYING. Yes, she was pretty savvy, but she was annoying as heck and could be DUMB a lot of the times. My other complaint was EVERY chapter had something new and terrible happen. Every time that something bad happened, I literally rolled my eyes and said "here we go again". I just ended up expecting everything to go wrong and was ready for Emily to win or die trying. I read the synopsis for the second book when I finished this book, and I rolled my eyes AGAIN, because it sounds just the same with everything going as wrong as possible. It's just NOT REAL.
