I received a copy of his on netgalley in exchange for my honest review. There were some interesting ideas behind this story but I didn’t find the execution successful. The story and characters were over the top and not believable. The writing style was not bad but the characters were all so extreme they were caricuatures of people instead of characters to relate to. The events are unrealistic beyond the initial attack on Emily’s family. The book addresses some important topics like teen runaways, mental health, sexual assault, and racism but instead of making the reader think it felt like they were being highlighted simply to say they were there. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this one and I won’t be reading the second novel when it comes out.
