I didn't expect to like this, but was pleasantly surprised. The main character is only 12 years old, but she's so clever and likable that I was rooting for her from the start. She relies heavily on common sense deductions, like the "laborer" who was too pale for that to be true. I was so impressed! However I think I would have some trouble suspending my disbelief for the whole story. While I do like the angle of the unlikely allies of a young girl and a gang member, it might overall not make up for the eye rolling. I don't like the cover, as it looks awkwardly overexposed and I keep thinking there was an accident and something went wrong with it.
