The Headmaster’s List is a YA thriller from accomplished author Melissa De La Cruz. I was really excited to read this book, but sadly it didn’t live up to my expectations.
The story was really hard for me to get into in the beginning. I just couldn’t connect to the characters. I also couldn’t stand the repetitive Scream. Crash. Float. I’m not sure what the author was trying to do here, but it didn’t work for me. I found it distracting and kept pulling me out of the story. The twists related to Spencer were interesting and not what I was expecting. All of the relationships in this book are so complicated and a bit over the top for high school!
Two things I did love were the cover and the inclusion of the podcast. I’m really getting into podcasts in books lately. The broken glass for perfect for this book.
Overall, the story was interesting, but the execution was lacking for me.
