The Headmaster's List is an entertaining, quick read about a student at an elite LA private school who has suffered memory loss among other injuries as a result of a horrific car crash that killed a fellow student. As she returns to school, Spencer has to deal with physical and mental trauma, while other students stare and whisper about her and the circumstances surrounding the crash. As Spencer tries to recover, she struggles with foggy memories of that fateful night, dealing with physical pain (in an unhealthy way), and trying to get through her senior year while managing PTSD . We see Spencer, a straight-A overachiever, spiral into obsession with the details of the night of the crash, and then realize the consequences of her obsession. I have to admit that I did figure out part of the mystery fairly early on, but there was also a twist I didn't see coming, so not all was lost before I finished the book. I don't usually read YA novels, and I feel this book was definitely targeted at a younger reader though I did enjoy the book. I have recommended and passed on my copy to my high school-aged daughter and look forward to hearing her thoughts!
