A Slow Start for a Good Author
Let me preface this by saying I’m a habitual reader of Ma. de La Cruz’s work—although usually on the fantasy side—and I was less than impressed with this first look. I was hoping for a little more suspense/intrigue than there was. As it was, it just sort of seemed like a senseless tragedy in a stereotypical high school setting. That being said, the author did manage to make believable characters and the writing wasn’t bad. I’ll read the whole of the book, but mostly only on the basis of her existing work
