The strategy of just jumping right in with an massive assassination attempt definitely worked to hook me into the story. Max from the very first paragraph is intriguing, and I'm invested now in figuring out what happened to him and how all the pieces are going to fit together. I love puzzles and mysteries and trying to identify all the foreshadowing along the way. In just the the first few pages, I'm already wondering if Max may not be the murderer, but someone that the police have to work with to solve the crimes. Or, he is as creepy and unstable as he appears and is the killer! I mean, there is something to how the prologue ended!

The other aspect that really interests me is that the book takes place in France. I love books that are have that piece of culture to them. I love the language, the settings, the imagery that comes with other countries.
