My first impression of this novel was the cover. I absolutely love it, and it fits the story perfectly! I was intrigued by the fact that this novel takes place in Paris. In the past, I have lived and traveled throughout France. Mr. Jay's descriptions of Paris and its landmarks, bring back some fond memories!

I found the first 17 pages to be well written and easy to follow. Mr. Jay does a wonderful job of describing the characters, setting and plot of this mystery. One of the main characters, Max, is a complicated and confusing man. I'm looking forward to learning more about him and why he acts and thinks the way he does. The other main character, Commandant Paul Mazzarelle, is an intelligent detective with the intelligence unit. He is involved in Max's case, and the new mystery of the man found hanging upside down in a Paris canal tunnel. I love how his character has developed thus far, and look forward to seeing how his character develops throughout this novel.

This is the first novel (preview) that I have read by Gerald Jay, but it certainly will not be the last. I'm looking forward to reading his previous novel, "The Paris Directive".

I look forward to reading this novel and posting my reviews.
