Missed the first one but sounds interesting enough

While I missed the first book, the author does a decent job of catch the reader up pretty quickly. I do feel like I don't fully understand the main character, but it's not enough to stop me from reading or enjoying the book so far.

Narration is straightforward, in a sort of no-nonsense way.
