Great introduction to an exciting character. The story starts with a nightmare - 16 year old Emily relives escaping the killer who murdered her mother and sister about 4 years earlier. She hid silently under dry leaves as he scrounged around, looking to finish her off too. In her dream, she gave up her location and was killed too. In real life, she lived, and she has suffered with survivor's guilt since then. She has made a new life with a fake identity, found a new family who are also survivors living in the fringes of society. The beginning of this story grabs you and you can't help but want to know more about Emily.
