I had been waiting so long for an encouraging and well-written book that celebrates sensitivity for what it is—a strength—instead of seeing it as a flaw or even an insult: how many times have people heard the phrase "You're too sensitive!" used as a derogatory comment? I have always believed that sensitivity is the key to achieving a great deal of positive things, like empathy, healthy relationships, general optimism, and, as this book illustrates, even development and success in the workplace. This book is written in a really approachable style that successfully balances being captivating from a human perspective with being grounded in research. I struggled with this book at first because I was hoping for more of a picture than just the author's own experiences. But as I went on, I came across a ton of fresh concepts to consider and absorb. The section about perception was excellent. It makes the point that perception has a significant impact on one's appraisal of a situation and may not correctly reflect reality, which is highly pertinent to the American experience at this time.
