Not What I Expected
Maybe this is on me for not looking deep enough into the premise of the book before reading it, but it turned out to be quite different than I thought. I was anticipating something along the lines of Bittersweet by Susan Cain, where it's a mixture of scientific research, personal anecdotes, and applications of the personality trait in question. I'd say that The Gift of Sensitivity is more of a memoir in disguise.
I definitely related a lot to many of the stories and situations presented. It's comforting to know that there's a lot of others who have gone through similar experiences as a result of being highly sensitive. But ultimately I was hoping for something more concrete and nonfiction-y with this book.
While not a bad read by any means, if you're someone who is looking for something highly researched, this just isn't quite that type of book.
