Sarah Gailey has quite the talent for taking a common genre element and subverting it. I very much enjoyed her original take on the magical school genre and "chosen one" trope in Magic for Liars. The Echo Wife, similarly, is another original story that turns The Stepford Wives on its head. In this modern iteration, Evelyn Caldwell is a respectable, award-winning scientist; from the outside, it looks like she has it all: money, status, a career, a loving husband... However, appearances can be deceiving and, like a house of cards, it all comes crashing down when Caldwell discovers her husband cheating... on herself? Or, more accurately, a clone of herself with some of the peskier qualities like strength and independence modified. Gailey's latest novel is a fascinating psychological thriller, great for fans of Big Little Lies and The Wife Between Us with a sci-fi twist.
