I received this book from Macmillan Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

What would you do if you found out your husband was cheating on you with a clone of yourself? And that that clone was made using your scientific research? That’s the premise of The Echo Wife, a book with an incredibly intriguing plot in my opinion - one that touches upon sci-for in a way that’s dystopian but also doesn’t seem SO far out of the realm of reality that you can’t connect to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and the overall twist on modern/ futuristic science. I also enjoyed the subtle underlying theme of whether or not we as a human race have truly figured out science as much as we think we have. Do we really have as many answers as we think we do?

That said, I did struggle a bit to connect to the main character until deep in the book. She has what I’d call a stereotypical scientist attitude - a very fact-based and logical outlook on events with little emotion attached. While accurate to who the author was trying to portray, it led me to have a hard time connecting to the narrator for a good chunk of the book, and almost wonder whose side I was on. At times too the details on some of the scientific nuances of cloning were a bit much for me. Others may enjoy that level of detail as I truly think that was a personal preference of mine, but I didn’t get much out of it as someone who was reading each page looking for the next twist.

Overall, this book was well written and perfect for someone wanting a cool take on a sci-fi theme. Not totally up my alley, but definitely worth it for the sci-fi loving reader.
