I breezed through the first nine pages of the novel.

The MC is clearly suffering the sudden desertion of her husband for another woman. She is more than a little full of herself and recently didn't have much time for him (boo hoo). The two are academics and researchers, she's just had a major breakthrough which resulted in her receiving the most prestigious award in her field. She is all about herself - the way she looks, the way she is perceived, the way she is respected.

....on the other hand, she is suffocating in her dress, in her profession, in having to go through the motions. At the beginning of the novel we only see her POV. But there are clearly strong hints of an alternate POV. MC advises us that all the signs were there, the receipts for jewelry she never saw, the dinners she never ate, the late evenings he came home with no explanation. Yet, she never stopped to really look or to care.

I mean, get serious lady, if you cared why didn't you confront him? You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either you want to maintain a relationship or you need to get a grip and let it go.....that's okay, too.

I'm curious to see where this goes - and why Martine has called. The cover art is beautiful and probably hints at things to come....
