I don't know if I'm entirely hooked, but this does seem like a good start. Evelyn seems like she's been through a lot, and I'm sure that as the book progresses we the readers will learn more about her past. Judging by the sample, the reader is given just enough to understand what's been happening so far. I do have the desire to find out what happens next, but from the sample, I don't feel emotionally invested enough to feel like that desire is an urgent one. I'm sure the rest of the story is great, but going from this I'm interested but neutral.
As for the cover, I like how everything on it is mirrored as that gives a subtle preview of what to expect in the book. Right off the bat, I thought it looked sleek.
