Meh. I never got invested in this book. Feels like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Thriller meets kidnapping meets legal procedural with some alcoholics anonymous thrown in. The protagonist was annoying, not in a "it was written that way on purpose" but in a holy shit quit getting yourself into situations and then playing the victim way. If the plot could decide what it wanted to be and then focus on character development, there's a chance it could read better but it just wasn't for me as it is. The plot being so messy took away from what could have been a couple of pretty good stand alone ideas. Flawed lawyer tries to make good with family, or serial killer targets former cops son, etc. All of that in one book was just too much.
