The book begins with attorney John Coleman finding his friend, Oyster, brutally murdered in an alley behind a local bar. The murder is reminiscent of the Butcher, a serial killer that plagued Coleman's police officer father and was the reason his father committed suicide when John was a teenager. Now it appears the Butcher is back.
