I'm not really much of a thriller reader, but after reading the first look for The Company of Demons I was excited to give this book a try. Hoo boy, it sure reminded me why I don't normally read thrillers. This book is pretty graphic and gory. It's a dark and gritty legal thriller, and it's really well written as far as the plot and writing style go but...

The main character, John Coleman, was also really unlikable to me. He cheats on his wife, has a drinking problem, and spends the entire book leering at women. He's just sleezy and gross and I didn't like him at all, which I suppose I could have gotten past if I'd like any of the other characters especially well, but I didn't really like anybody in this book. At which point I'd normally start rooting for the villain, but i didn't even like them... UGH.

I'm the type of person who needs to care about the characters in the book I'm reading, and I just didn't give a fig about anyone in this book, so it didn't click for me. Plus I hate gore, so if there was a bookish equivalent to watching a horror movie through the cracks in your fingers I'd have totally been doing that while reading this book.
