Based upon the first two chapters provided by Bookish First, I was looking forward to a suspenseful thriller with a complex character. Unfortunately, The Company of Demons did not deliver on that promise. John Coleman, a lawyer who is hired to handle the estate of a long-time acquaintance, is not a likable person. He makes one poor choice after another and seems to blame everyone else for his problems. On the surface, he professes undying love for his daughter, but fails to show up to protect her when he receives threats. There are two plot lines driving the story and neither one was suspenseful enough to make me want to turn pages. The ending left a lot to be desired in terms of justice being done.
