You'll Have to Like a Different Writing Style

I really tried to like the first impression snippet of the book. However, the author's style of writing, while (I think) attempting to be somewhat engaging, fell flat for me. The distraction of the dialogue style led me to continue wondering what the characters were saying and why the author was using the particular style more than interesting me in the story. Perhaps someone else will enjoy the author's style, but for me it's a no-go.
