The story takes no time at all getting to the point. We have a murder, a history of serial killers, and a local newspaper interview about said history of serial killers published a week prior to this most recent brutalization all within a few pages. The murder mystery is intriguing, especially with the history aspect, but I didn't get a lot of strong characterization from the people we met so far. But maybe this develops more as the story goes; it's a murder thriller story anyways, not a character study. Intriguing!
