The Cleaner is the first book in the series featuring John Milton. This is the first book I’ve read by Mark Dawson and I did not know what to expect. The first book should be the easiest when starting a new series and this one just seemed kind of awkward.
Most of the Cleaner is not about John Milton, but rather, of another character. The writing and scenarios was believable though, with the gangs and the crimes, however, at times some of the language was bulky. It reminded me some of another British character, and I do wonder if I'm just too accustomed to other styles of writing.
John Milton appears to have a good heart, however, if you’re looking for a feel good book, this is not it. This is not a romance or a Hallmark movie. This is about a government assassin who is pretty much done and tries to help somebody in a bad situation.
I hope to pick up the second book to see where Mark Dawson decides to take John Milton.
