Beautiful story of the hardships the kids faced on the long train journey however this one wasn’t for me. I don’t know if it was the fact that it was translated but I couldn’t get into it. I typically enjoy historical fiction.
This boys hardships are amazing and his attitude was so honorable and worthy of praise. So resilient.
Together with thousands of other southern children, Amerigo will cross the entire peninsula to a new life.
Through his curious eyes, you see how innocent he is too. Italy is being reborn after the war. As he comes to enjoy his new surroundings and the possibilities for a better future, Amerigo will make the heartbreaking choice to leave his mother and become a member of his adoptive family.
It was interesting to hear the experiences from the train from his point of view but again , it was not for me. It didn’t really go anywhere.
