I enjoyed this story! The writing was clean and precise and the story was heart wrenching. I did not know that this book was based on a true story until I finished reading it.
World War II has devastated Italy, and even though the war is over, children are being taken by train to a better life. Amerigo lives with his mother in Naples performing odd jobs for ends meet. He learns he will go to live with an adoptive family, one that can take better care of him. This is the heart wrenching tale of a boy who grows up too fast. This coming of age story is about a boy who had to overcome everything to find himself.
I was really excited to have won this book, but I was disappointed to see that the arc copy I received was a rather plain copy and the cover was ripped. I always feature my book reviews on Instagram and will not be able to feature this one on my page. I think it would be worth it for the publisher to provide at least an illustrated cover as an arc copy as it is more likely to be featured on bookstagram.
