I have always liked the history behind the children’s trains in the United States back in and following the depression. But I have never heard of one in Russia.
This boy has been wearing shoes that don’t fit because they are not his but ones passed on to him. Rather than stealing this child is taught to find old clothes to sell to the rag picker. Briefly he attended school, thinking he would rather not attend school. He soon changes his mind, life on the street is no fun Soon he is taken to meet a woman that will decide if he will be sent on the children’s train to Russia.
He thinks his mother is going to sell him to her.
Amerigo is chosen to go north and is pleased to be part of a loving family.
