Will tell my friend about this one - she likes WWII books

I have to generally avoid books written about the WWII period because they throw me into such a tailspin of depression! This one comes across as lighthearted, probably due to the young narrator who tells the story with an 8 year old's worldview. Still, I have a strong hesitation because my heart will be broken if this is sad.
