My first impressions of the cover is the story is dark, gloomy, and very similar to other historical fiction books centered in/ around WWII.
I've read many Holocaust era books, and have been surprised by how much I learn and how each book can be so different, and this book also seems to be this. Historical fiction in this time period don't seem to focus on the children, and this is something I'm very interested in reading a book about.
To be impoverished is one thing, and then to adopt your child out because of that poverty is such a heartbreaking thing i could never imagine enduring.
