The description reminds me a bit of the movie The Bicycle Thief, in that it's a look at the poverty Italy experienced after WW2. It's a story many readers (American, at least) aren't aware of. The Naples setting also makes me think of Elena Ferrante. This looks interesting due to the unusual story and has a cover that really sets the mood.
