A poignant story of post—World War II Italy
As the story unfolds, the build up to the departure of Amerigo is filled with descriptions of the everyday life of a young boy in post World War II Italy, and the privations both and his mother face on a daily basis. The considerable deliberations to send him on the Children’s Train weigh heavily on his mother, and the story provides a good description of the anguish faced by her in the decision. The First Impression left me wanting to read more!
