The Best Laid Plans is a cute, quick, and easy read with the most adorable cover. It is a YA contemporary romance novel that involves a friends to lovers romance, spiteful friends, and major slut-shaming. Overall I really enjoyed this book, it was easy to read and I flew through the chapters quickly and for the most part liked the story. This book is definitely meant for the young adult/ teen age group. Before reading this book I didn’t have very high expectations for it since I’ve heard so many mixed reviews on it. I decided to take a chance on it since I’m reading it for the #sparkofjoyreadathon and it has been on my tbr list for a while. Most people who read and review this book are outside of the YA age group and usually give it 3 or less stars. I fall into the YA age group and I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed seeing how Keely and Andrew dealt with her having a boyfriend and seeing Keely realize she might not know Andrew as well as she thought she did. I, however, didn’t enjoy that their romance didn’t start taking place until chapter 20. The romance was very slow paced until you got to almost the end of the book and then it sped up. I also didn’t enjoy the fact that there was so much shaming involved in this book. I also didn’t like Dean’s character, he was extremely pushy toward Keely and only wanted to “date” her for one thing. Although there were certain aspects of this book I didn’t like, this was a very quick YA read that sucked me right in with an adorable romance set at the center of it.
