This story seems to be full of tropes that I grew tired with when I was in high school. There is a chance that I am just behind the curve with this one because I have not read the first book but, the tropes in this short excerpt are enough to make me roll my eyes.
I will say that this book seems to be written well in general. The story might not be to my taste but the writer has skill which is a serious plus.
