The Art of Escaping is an amazing story about seventeen year old Mattie and Will With Two L's (his real name being 'Willem') plodding their way through life, troubled by expectations, decision-making, peer pressure, dreams, despair and judgement.
The Art of Escaping is well-written (I can easily imagine the author having fun writing this debut!) and contains interesting characters (both the main and side or supporting characters) with both witty and poetic voices:
'On days when I wanted to tear off my own skin and wave it around like a wacky flag of desperation, my imaginary friends and I time traveled to imaginary places.' (15%)
