This was a short glimpse at what I think will be an intriguing book. I really loved the voice of Mattie and the splash of her high school life we were treated to. Although her relationship with a teacher (first name basis, swear sprinkled banter) was never my experience, it didn't veer into unbelievable territory, like something out of 7th Heaven. Instead, the dialogue felt real, and Mattie seems like a very self-aware, well-rounded (sorry Mattie), observant teenager. I can totally see why she would become obsessed with just one thing, that being escapology. I definitely want to read more, because it's refreshing to see a teen book where the focus (at least so far) is on the protagonist's journey (gaining confidence and actually seeing a more-than-mediocre existence for herself) over just a romance/dystopia.
