I was unsure of this book’s genre based on the cover. At first, it seemed like literary fiction, but right away, the story opens with texting between young adults, so I got my bearings. Then, there’s an excerpt - I’m unsure if it’s real or fiction - that creates a mysterious pause before jumping into the first solid scene.
Immediately, I like Mattie. She’s tenacious and smart with an authentic sense of humor that’s better than those snarky-unrealistic-comebacks type of characters.
