This book is wild! I spent the whole time wondering what was going on. I’d heard that this book was confusing and that you needed to really pay attention which made me apprehensive going in, but I didn’t struggle with it at all and basically read it in two sittings. The writing was nice and definitely fit right in with a classic mystery tone, but didn’t feel superfluous. I definitely recommend being in a mood to keep track of what’s going on and to think, that would be the only recommendation, especially since this is a whodunnit unlike others I’ve read or seen. It’s like if you mixed Agatha Christie/Clue with some kind of Groundhog Day situation, except you’re someone else every time.

Basically the premise is that the main character wakes up in a body with no memories, and figures out that there is going to be a murder which he has to solve. Every time Evelyn dies, the whole thing resets and he wakes up in a different body. If he doesn’t find out who murdered Evelyn at the end, the whole thing starts all over again, and he’s competing against other people in the same boat, including one person who basically just goes after him. But of course every person has their own personality which can make it hard for the character to find out where his thoughts end and the other person’s begins, even more so when he can barely remember who he is to begin with! What was really interesting about this was how each person he was in brought something (or hindered) to the case, and how perceptions changed. It was also really fascinating seeing who he could trust since he’s competing against unknown others.

That being said, the mystery wasn’t really the pay-off, it was what happened to the main character and why he was in this situation that was more so the payoff. The ending was a bit disappointing and abrupt, but I mostly enjoyed the ride to get to the end!
