Why are some copies of this book called 7 deaths and others (like mine) called 7 ½? Confused. This book was… a trip. It took me longer than usual to get through a book of this length but I just got so frustrated with how the story was told. At times, it felt like I as the reader was on the same page as Aiden with being confused and trying to piece together the clues, but then the next minute, Aiden was masterminding these crazy plans and not explaining shit until he was outsmarting whoever it was he was outsmarting. It just made it difficult to connect with him as a protagonist because it just felt like I was supposed to be in cahoots with him and all of a sudden I was left in the dark. The premise of the book had sounded really cool and gave me Clue vibes but as I got into the story, I just found myself struggling to keep up with the physics/logistics of the changing world of Blackheath. The ending of the book honestly saved it and added an extra star to my rating because at least everything was explained and you do get a few good solid plot twists but not until the literal last 20-40 pages.
RECOMMENDATION: I’d recommend this to people with a lot of patience because you won’t really understand anything as it is happening. That’s not who I am as a reader so it wasn’t really my cup of tea. Also read this if you like a complex mystery story or if you like Clue (game or movie lol). Don’t read this if you get confused trying to follow different storylines and character perspectives. There are a LOT of details in this book to pick up on and it’s a little tricky.
