** spoiler alert ** What a ride! I definitely did not see that ending coming! I’m still processing my thoughts. This gave me such Sherlock vibes with the setting, cast of characters, and obviously mystery aspect. I loved the premise behind this story. I loved how different things could be noticed by different hosts, each host had their specialties and limitations, and how the personality of different hosts came through. Spoilers ahead! When it’s revealed that this was a prison of sorts I thought that was such a cool idea. I’m also glad that both Ana and Aiden chose to not remember who they were before. Because I feel like memories make a person, so without those old memories holding them back maybe they can actually start a new life. Ana especially. People deserve a chance to change, to be rehabilitated and make the right choices. So that’s how I feel about Ana. This got so complex and there were so many questions that I’m pleasantly surprised they were all able to be solved with the two answers. My favorite characters Jim Rashton and Grace Davies. I love them both themselves and their relationship was amazing. I really liked Evelyn in the beginning especially when she fired the shot at Johnathan Derby but we all know how THAT turned out. (Biggest SPOILER ahead) the real Evelyn was pure evil. No regret. Just a stone cold killer who enjoys murder. Her only shred of humanity being her love for Michael. Even though she did lead to his death unintentionally. It’s hard not to feel like she got what she deserved. Same with the footman too. He had no humanity whatsoever and I was glad when he died. Actually Madeline’s reveal as being Evelyn makes sense because in Gregory Gold’s chapter we learned she was hooked on laudanum and how would a maid have the money to supply that habit. Oh and Millicent’s comment that young Evelyn was plain and not pretty, meanwhile this new Evelyn was striking and beautiful, but Madeline is described as plain without her makeup. There were little hints that I definitely did not pick up on.) 99% of the characters are on the spectrum between grey and morally dark, with a few exceptions. Makes this so interesting. In summary, there were a lot of “ohhhhh” and “oh sh*t!” moments I had while reading the book so for that enjoyment factor alone- 4!!
