I'm not a fan of memory loss as a plot point in books. Especially complete memory loss as is the case in this preview. I find it kind of contrived. It's hard to get a read on the rest of the plot in this preview beyond a man witnesses a murder but remembers nothing else.

The dialogue sounds strange to the ear, but this could be due to the time period in which it is set (they never quite specify, but my understanding is that it is in the past). It just feels forced and awkward, so the flow feels off kilter. The story seems slow moving in these first few chapters. The summary sounds interesting, but I just can't reconcile it with what I'm currently reading.
