There are a lot of unanswered questions just in the cover and the title, both having an air of mystery about them. They are very effective in prompting a look at the description of the book, which really piqued my interest. Having small images blocked off in the corners gives a sense of a puzzle - different pieces that, when tied to the same thing (the title in the middle), make more sense together than they do separately. And the title itself if puzzling on its own and again the cover visually hints that these other things will have to be put together to make sense of what it means. In my opinion the cover is apropos in that it's a simple, but effective, visual representation of the content of the book. And after five short chapters of sampling this work the questions and mysteries pile up rapidly - in a good way! It quickly moves from one mysterious event to another with little unexplained curiosities along the way that rapidly pull you deeper into the narrative in hopes that answers will be forthcoming further down the road. I'm eager to find out where this story will go. By the description of the book prior to reading the excerpt, there will likely be many more curious events to come. I'm ready to take the rest of the journey to see if the author can keep that up and give satisfying answers and tie it all together by the end.
