I could not finish this book, despite finding Jane Tennsion a thoroughly likeable character. At almost 600 pages, I think it’s way too long and convoluted for a mystery. There were too many plots and subplots to keep track of, strange meanderings into things that had nothing to do with and contributed nothing to the story, her sister’s wedding being a prime example. There also appeared to be a number of very obvious red herrings.

Had the book been half its length, I think it would have been a great mystery, one that grabs hold of the reader so that he or she simply couldnt put it down. Sadly, it just dragged on. I would have loved to find out who did what to whom, when, and why, but after a long plod through half of this rather tedious tale, I lost interest.
