I received a free e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Wow! This is a great prequel. We see a young Jane Tennison as a rookie who is just beginning her career with the Metro Police in London as she learns the ropes in Hackney. She is a female officer in a male world facing silly pranks and sexual harassment by her male counterparts as she fights to earn their respect. She is intelligent, engaging and likeable. She is sharp, tenacious, and observant. We also see her relationship with family and how different she is from them. This is an extremely well written crime thriller/police procedural with two great plots and excellent character development. This is a twofer as Jane and her colleagues are attempting to solve two different and unrelated cases. There is a lot going on here and Lynda LaPlante shows us that she isn’t afraid to take risks. The author does an excellent job of coordinating both cases as we see both cases resolved by the end. ‘Tennison’ is well worth the read and I look forward to reading more from Lynda LaPlante in the future.
